Railway authorities conducted a major anti-encroachment drive at Santoshpur Station on Tuesday night as part of an ongoing campaign to clear unauthorized occupations from railway land. The operation targeted shops and structures that had been operating on railway property around the station without authorization.
According to railway officials, the drive began at around 10:00 PM and continued late into the night. Authorities stated that several shops had been functioning on railway land for a prolonged period through unauthorized occupation, prompting the enforcement action.
A large contingent of Railway Protection Force personnel and state police was deployed during the operation to maintain law and order. Security arrangements were put in place across the station area while officials carried out the clearance process.
The operation commenced with the disconnection of electricity supply to the affected shops. Bulldozers and other machinery were then used to demolish unauthorized structures, while railway workers removed illegal constructions and shops located on and around the platform area. Railway authorities stated that the objective of the drive was to free station premises from encroachments and improve passenger accessibility and facilities.
